Pap Smear tests are a screening test for women involving an examination of the cervix (neck of the womb). Sample cells are removed from the cervix to check for changes which
occur prior to cancer developing. These changes can be treated and cancer prevented. We recommend that all women up to the age of 70 years who are or have been sexually active should have regular smears unless otherwise advised by the Doctor.

Breast examinations are a  good idea for all women to examine their own breasts regularly for lumps. If you are not sure how to do this your doctor will be able to show you. We also suggest an annual breast examination by your doctor and in addition, if you are 40 years or older, you should also have a second yearly mammogram.

Vasectomies are performed (usually on a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday) under local anaesthetic in conjunction with an awake light anaesthetic. It is relatively painless and mild discomfort from the procedure may last for a few days only. An appointment to discuss the procedure and its requirements is needed a few weeks prior to the operation.

The surgery provides vaccination for all childhood immunisations. The majority of these vaccines are provided free of charge. Routine childhood vaccinations are bulk billed and are associated with a child health check.
Vaccinations that do attract a fee are Hepatitis A & B, Influenza (for those aged under 65), newer infant vaccines and travel vaccinations, however, these are able to be claimed by private health insurance.

If you are travelling overseas, you may need extra vaccinations. Please contact the surgery in good time, as some vaccinations need to be given a month or so before travelling.
